Condo owners start legal fight over shared pool

The owners of two of Aspen’s longest-existing condominium complexes are embroiled in a legal fight over the future of the outdoor pool and meeting room they share.
The dispute has divided Chateau Roaring Fork and its neighbor across the street, Chateau Eau Claire, which were both built in the late 1960s alongside the Roaring Fork River. And it has caused division within the Chateau Roaring Fork homeowners association itself, one unit owner said Wednesday.
In July, Chateau Roaring Fork sued Chateau Eau Claire in an effort to partition four city lots on which the pool, two hot tubs and conference center sit alongside Highway 82.
James Barash, president of the Chateau Roaring Fork HOA, declined comment when asked why his group wants to partition the 12,000-square-foot property. His counterpart in Chateau Eau Claire, Jerry Portnoy, also declined comment.
But Chuck Grantham, the owner of a Chateau Roaring Fork unit, said Barash and the HOA board want to sell the land to a developer who could build four condominiums.
“There are a lot of people who are very upset about this, myself included,” Grantham said. “[We] feel that the board, and in particular the president, have moved ahead without getting any unanimity from the owners of Chateau Roaring Fork.” Read more: http://www.aspendailynews.com/section/home/168060
